Wedding Rings and Bride’s Dress...

According to the tradition, a future bride should not take part in the purchase of the wedding rings.

The rings should be bought by a fiancé; however he does not have to choose them himself. Some time ago gold rings were preferred. Today, it is a matter of taste and wealth. Inner part of the ring should have the name and the wedding date.

Unlike the majority of European countries, in Poland wedding rings are worn on the middle finger of the right hand.

Preparing a wedding dress, the bride should remember about a few important details. The bride should wear something white. This color symbolizes purity of her feelings. Tradition says that the bride should also wear something blue – this should guarantee faithfulness of the groom. She should also have something borrowed and something old – something borrowed gives friendly attitude of the husband’s family, something old symbolizes help of relatives and friends in need. Of course the bride should also have something new as a symbol of wealth!

The bride on her way to the church should also have the following things:

• there should be a crystal of sugar and a crumb of bread in the seam of the dress

• there should be a coin in the bride’s shoe

• there should be some coins in the groom’s pocket

it is believed that these things should bring the new family wealth and happiness.
